I have always struggled with my weight. It has been a constant source of frustration. Everyone who has ever struggled with their weight knows about the trials and frustrations and how mean kids can be. I was able, in my early 20s to whip myself into shape for about 4 years. When I got married and started having children, though, it all came back…. and much more.
A year and a half ago, I realized I had reached 290 pounds. I am only 5′6″. I was devastated. I started paying attention to what I ate and got down to about 260. I hovered there for this last year and a half.
Last month I decided I was tired of this and really wanted to get my life back. I had been reading Jimmy Moore’s “Livin La Vida Low Carb” blog for quite some time and doing a lot of low carb research. I decided to take the plunge and started on the Atkins Diet. In the first month, I dropped over 20 pounds. I have had something weird happen this week though and have gained a few pounds back due to some water retention, but it is quickly coming back in line.
I have set a goal to be at 180 pounds by my 38th birthday, which is November 17, 2009. I will be journaling here and telling all the gory details, the good, the bad and the downright scary. I hope you join me to see what happens.
Weight today : 241.8

JUSTIN MARTYR c.100-165 A.D.
“But that you may not have a pretext for saying that Christ must have been crucified, and that those who transgressed must have been among your nation, and that the matter could not have been otherwise, I said briefly by anticipation, that God, wishing men and angels to follow His will, resolved to create them free to do righteousness; possessing reason, that they may know by whom they are created, and through whom they, not existing formerly, do now exist; and with a law that they should be judged by Him, if they do anything contrary to right reason: and of ourselves we, men and angels, shall be convicted of having acted sinfully, unless we repent beforehand.

While remodeling our house, my wife found an old-school cd by Russ Taff. I put it on and relived some memories. The song Winds of Change struck me with how much this song is about ME. Check it out.
Well, I’ve seen my chances come and go
And come back round again
But everytime they took me by surprise
There was a day I used to want
the things I did not have
But it’s never better on the other side.
Well, I’ve never gone so far that I’ve
forgotten my way home
The best things always bring you back again
over and over
(chorus)
The Hands of Time
Go Round and Round
They don’t slow down when you lose your way
At evry turn
The things you learn
You wear them proud like you wear your name
And as you go
On Down that road
Don’t let the dust get in your eyes
It blows in the winds of change.
(end of chorus)
Hunger is no stranger
I’ve sat with him before
And everything I’ve done has not been good
As I’ve tried to make my stand
I’ve had to learn to fall
And maybe I’ve seen more than I should
But I’ve never gone so far that I’ve
Forgotten my way home
The best things always bring you back again
over and over
(sing chorus)
And I held on to my life
And I kept my dream alive
And the dream ain’t over
Over and over
